70cc Sensation Buddy Williams WORCS Race Report

April 6th, 2010

bwlogoMarch 20-21, Lake Havasu City AZ: Buddy Williams entered round 3 of the WORCS Series with a comfortable points lead in all 3 of his classes. Unfortunately the annual Lake Havasu Spring Break round would turn the points leader into a points chaser. Saturday in the 70 Production class, Buddy’s clutch stuck in high gear at the starting line. He nursed the bike around the first lap, helplessly in last place. It looked like a certain DNF, until miraculously the clutch shifted out, and Buddy got going. He was in dead last with 25 minutes to go. Buddy charged all the way to third, when his clutch ultimately gave out, leaving him with a 9th place finish.

Saturday afternoon Buddy took an early lead in the 90cc Sport class, and was leaving the class of 20 behind. Buddy was turning lap times 6 seconds faster than anyone on the track, but with10 minutes to go, he would again lose a clutch. Buddy had to settle for a 13th.

Sunday morning he would have 1 more opportunity in the 70 Open class. Buddy took the holeshot, and ran for 25 minutes up front, until the last lap when he was trying to hold off second place, and the third place rider made a move around both for the win. Buddy was still grateful for a 2nd after the trouble on Saturday. The bad luck put Buddy back to 3rd overall in the 90cc class, 2nd overall in the 70 prod, but he still remains the leader in the 70 Open. Buddy will certainly be aiming to put himself back on top in round
