1986 USGP Champ Looks Forward To A Great Race On May 30th
April 9, 2010 – Glen Helen Raceway, CA – Ricky Johnson, the 7-time AMA National Champion, should be a familiar name to motocross fans both young and old. He was also a member of 4 winning Motocross des Nations teams, but he still counts his 1986 Carlsbad USGP win as one of the highlights of his career. Since an injury-enforced retirement from professional motocross in the 1990s, he has remained involved as a trainer, promoter and business owner, however he says he remains a fan, first and foremost!
“As a former USGP competitor as well as a lifelong motocross racing fan, I could not be more excited to learn that we will have a Grand Prix back on American soil at Glen Helen Raceway,” exclaims Johnson. “I’ve known Giuseppe Luongo for many years and I believe that he and his Youthstream group add a high level of class to our sport.”
Having raced NASCAR and now off-road trucks, Johnson believes Youthstream brings a lot to the table. “I raced Giuseppe’s events during my motocross racing career and they were always the best! Anyone who attended the Motocross Des Nations in Italy last year like I did will expect the USGP at Glen Helen to be quite a show. Knowing that my fellow American motocross fans have a chance to see the current GP talent battling it out with our American riders should make all of us even more eager for May 30th to arrive.”
