When it comes to freestyle motocross Justin Homan has one of the longest running careers of all time. A true OG, Justin has been around since the early days and helped found the sport with the likes of Brian Deegan and Mike Metzger. Though he’s competed all over the globe and has the medals to prove it, Justin’s approach to this sport, and life in general, is much different than that of his fellow FMX riders.
Justin left the dirtbike scene in the early 90’s to attend college at the University of Washington, Seattle School of Business. His reentry into the sport came some time later after accepting an invitation to watch a fellow mountain bike friend race at a local motocross track. From there Justin made a second attempt at racing Supercross professionally and began putting on exhibitions at event intermissions. Teaming up with Brian Deegan and a group of riders that called themselves the Metal Mulisha, Justin began laying the groundwork for a new sport called freestyle motocross.
Nearly a decade later, Justin found himself competing all over the world and bringing home gold medals in both the X Games and Gravity Games. The 8th person in the world to land a back flip in competition, Justin has never had a problem laying it all on the line.
Fast forward to 2010, Justin has managed to combine two seemingly unrelated worlds. Maintaining a 9-5 corporate job as the general manager for AmeriTitle Inc., Justin also runs his own freestyle demo company called MX Thirteen. What’s more, Justin isn’t just the boss in charge of booking shows and working with promoters, he’s still out there throwing back flips and variations with the kiddies. How many people can say that about their accountant?
If you ask Justin he would tell you it’s a balance. “The people at my real job don’t understand why I do what I do on a motorcycle and the people in that industry don’t understand why I do the corporate thing.”
For Justin it’s the right fit. A way of combining and applying the professionalism he learned in college with his passion for riding a motorcycle. Now a husband and father of two, Brooklyn and Byron, Justin plays the family man all while squeezing in up to 55 show dates a year. Residing in Central Oregon, the majority of his shows are scattered throughout the Pacific Northwest but he still makes time for a few over seas demos each year. Justin serves as the official 2010 Metal Mulisha demo representative for the northwest and Canada. Unfortunately, due to his double lives he had to turn down the 2010 China X-Games this spring but is slated to be in Kampala, Uganda (Africa) in late summer.
