As we come to the end of the 10th year anniversary tour, I think back to all the years behind us and the years in front of us yet to come. There have been so many champions and great stories along the way. As many of you know, I came to WORCS as just another racer like all of you. I raced the program in 2002 and 2003 because a friend of mine from Texas said he was making a movie about west coast racing and he would be attending the WORCS series. He said to come and check it out; I did and I never left. He made the movie Monster Moto with some of the best footage from the greatest racers to ever throw a leg over a bike. I was in awe of what these guys did. Watching the battles of Ty Davis and Mike Kiedrowski were just what I had hoped they would be. In the same year, a couple of kids were doing things on KX 80’s that made you do a double-take. They were Ricky Dietrich and Justin Soule and even little Josh Morros on the 65’s. Really, no matter what class you watch (even today), great things are happening right in front of us. I have been very fortunate to see so many of them. Like when Nathan Woods and Ty Davis had a full-on dog fight at Monticello in 2004. It was history in the making, but sportsmanship lead the way.
On the ATV side of things the history is not quite as long for all the amateurs, but Doug Eichner was the man for so many years of it. He pioneered the way ATVs should be set up for racing alongside arguably the best mechanic ever, Lenny Duncan. Then came Josh “The Animal” Frederick. Josh raised the bar so high for the two hour event that Lance Armstrong would cry uncle and he single-handedly redefined the ATV work ethic. There are new faces in the Pro ranks like Dustin Nelson and Josh Row that are knocking at the door every weekend, while Beu Baron is gunning for Pro Championship #2. WORCS is building the amateur program each event and our first Amateur to Pro Champion is just around the corner.
Now onto current events. The anniversary awards ceremony is coming and you have to be stoked to attend this one.
