I (Seth Fargher) recently had the opportunity to join Mark Williams of Digital Dirt magazine for a weekend in the desert riding Ocotillo Wells. Like most folks in southern California, I’ve been chomping at the bit for the cooler temps to arrive so I could head out to the desert and kick off the winter riding season. Couple that with my eagerness to ride since my get off last July and I was ready to ride.
The folks at Pro Armor and GBC tires provided the perfect opportunity by putting together a fall fun run event. Mark had some new camera goodies he was eager to try out and I’m always down for an opportunity to ride Ocotillo so we convened Saturday morning and went to work.
Armed with a new HD GoPro Hero helmet camera and a host of on board mounts we took off down the trails and mud hills swapping cameras around just enjoying being out. Be it I’m back to riding my stock TRX 450, Mark was kind enough to let me throw a leg over his custom Project Ammo quad. The Elka/Roll Design front end makes all the difference in the world when jumping or riding off the endless number of ledges the area has to offer.
Ocotillo is one of the most diverse and unique riding areas on the planet. There are tight trails, sand washes and in some areas, even sand dunes. The mud hills create all kinds of unique obstacles and if you look hard enough, you can find plenty of opportunities for catching air.
After a couple film sessions with all the cameras it was back to camp where the Pro Armor gang was serving up tacos and cool refreshments. They even had a DJ on hand “mixin’ sum phat beats.”
I love any opportunity to get out and ride, especially at Ocotillo Wells. Big thank you to Pro Armor and GBC for putting the event together and Digital Dirt for hooking up the RV for us to stay in!
