Glen Helen Pro Podium – Beau Baron 1st, Dustin Nelson 2nd!
Fallbrook CA 9/23/2011 – San Bernadino, CA – All eyes were on the front runners as WORCS round seven proved to be anything but predictable. After an hour and forty minutes of racing, it was Beau Baron that claimed the checkered flag at Glen Helen – his first WORCS win this season. “After I got into the lead, my work was not done and there was no time to relax because I could still see Warnia, Haagsma, Frederick and Nelson charging, and they were not going to let me breathe easily,” remembered Baron. “This race has really tightened up the series points chase and makes the battle for the championship more exciting. I am going to do my best to prepare for the final two rounds, and no matter how it ends it is sure to be exciting.” Baron currently sits just twelve points out of first place.
Dustin Nelson picked up second place, finishing just twelve seconds behind Baron. Nelson was riding with an injured right arm after an unfortunate incident during Saturday qualifying. “I had a pretty good crash in qualifying practice. It beat up my arm a little, but I was still able to qualify in third position,” said Nelson. Nelson fought injury related arm pump during the first half of Sunday’s Pro Main. “After my pit stop, I was running in fourth position. There was a pro-am rider down, and he was blocking the pro downhill. The top six or seven pros were all lined up waiting. When the track cleared we all raced hard. I passed Frederick when he pitted, and on the last lap made my way past Haagsma for 2nd.”
It’s his rookie season as a pro WORCS racer, but David Haagsma has already staked his place loudly at the top of the pack. At Glen Helen, Haagsma nabbed his second holeshot in the Pro class this season on his Roll Design / Elka / MCR / H&M Motorsports Honda, finishing on the leader’s minute and just eleven seconds away from the third podium spot.
Pro Race: 1st, Beau Baron; 2nd, Dustin Nelson; 4th David Haagsma
