Thor Riders Show Dominance at the Thor Winter National Olympics

December 9th, 2011

Thor 2011 LogoThe 2011 running of the Thor Winter National Olympics marked the 40th gathering of the best amateur motocross racers in the country at Gatorback Cycle Park in Alachua, Fla. After the final checkered flag was waved, Thor riders captured 13 championships and 16 additional podium finishes over the holiday week. The supercross discipline started the week, and it was clear that Thor’s Tanner Stack and Cooper Webb were going to be dominant. Stack earned championships in both the 85 (9-11) Stock and 85 (9-11) Modified classes, while Webb was dominant in the B class with championships in 250 B Modified and Open B Modified. Other Thor riders grabbing titles were Lance Kobusch in the 65 (7-9) Modified class, Colt Nichols in the Schoolboy (13-16) class, and Jeremy Martin in the 250A/Pro Stock class. In addition to the seven supercross championships earned by Thor riders, Kobusch, Nichols, Justin Hill, and Ryder DiFrancesco also added seven more podium finishes to the list.

As the week continued, the amateur riders were ready to get back to the track, this time in the motocross discipline. Once again, Thor riders showed their speed by securing six more championships with Stack, Webb, and Martin all adding to their growing trophy collection. DiFrancesco, Challen Tennant and Hill each earned their first titles of the week, while Carter Halpain, Jordon Smith, Stilez Robertson, Kobusch, Martin, Webb, and Stack all grabbed podium finishes as well.

When all was said and done, awards were presented for a variety of achievements, but one of the most prestigious, the Dunlop Silver Tire Award, went to Martin, who earned the top score in the A class over both the supercross and motocross competitions.

“I was shocked when I heard the announcer call my name for the award,” said Martin. “This award means the world to me after the uncertainty during the off season. To win two titles and consistently be on the podium after only riding the bike for a handful of times really gets me excited for 2012.”

The next amateur national will be in February 2012 when the riders head to Freestone Raceway in Wortham, Texas.
